French Enrichment Classes

French Enrichment Classes

The Intern Committee is pleased to announce that we will be offering French Enrichment classes again this year. In addition to continuing the improvements made to last year’s program, we are implementing a homework lab that will be tailored to 4th and 5th grade students to assist them with their grade-specific French language projects. For all students, the French Enrichment classes create a fun, constructive environment for your student to explore the French language.

The Basics:

We will be offering two six-week sessions. You may sign up for either or both. The dates are:

First Session: Wednesdays; 11/6, 11/13, 12/4, 12/11, 1/8, 1/15

Second Session: Wednesdays;  3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23

  • The classes are taught by our talented Normandale Interns

  • The classes are open to all students – Kindergarten through 5th grade

  • The Student / Intern ratio will be approximately 3:1

  • Students will be dismissed at 3:05pm from their classrooms directly to the Enrichment Program

  • Pick up is at 4:15pm in the Auditorium. Please be sure to park in the lot and come into the building to pick up your child

  • Children who attend Kids Club will be escorted to Kids Club at the conclusion of class

  • Cost is $75 per session and all fees go toward supporting the French Intern program.

Class Structure:

This year we will continue to incorporate both activity based learning as well as traditional language skill building into the curriculum.

Each class will be divided into two disciplines. One half of the class will be spent engaged in Activity Time in the Auditorium. The interns will use games, songs, art projects and simple science experiments to support French conversational skills. The other half of the class will be spent in the Media Center working in small, ability-based groups. The groups will practice speaking, reading and writing in French. The emphasized skills include pronunciation, vocabulary, word attach skills, fluency, grammar and spelling. For our 4th and 5th grade students, a homework lab will be available in the Media Center.

Because of visa regulations, the Enrichment classes are the only opportunity for your child to work with the interns outside of the school day. Classes will be filled on a first come – first served basis. Space is limited so sign up early!
